The only solution is through negotiations." View the tweet here.

04/24/20 - Rep. McGovern posted the following to Facebook: "Today is Armenian Genocide Memorial Day.

#Worcester is home to one of the oldest #Armenian communities in America and I usually mark this solemn day in person with my Armenian friends and neighbors. Even though we can't do that this year, I recorded this video for our Armenian community and I stand in solidarity with Armenians around the world in solemn remembrance of the #ArmenianGenocide and the more than 1.5 million Armenian children, women, and men whose lives were taken. We must embrace the truth and stand together against the bigotry and hatred that leads to such evil. #NeverForget ????????" View the Facebook post here.

11/09/19 - Rep. McGovern posted the following to Facebook: "I am so grateful to receive the 2019 Freedom Award from the Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region. I‘m honored and humbled by this acknowledgement.

Although Congress has passed measures over the years, none have actually called what happened in Armenia what it was — genocide.

Recognizing the truth of the Armenian genocide is an issue that’s near and dear to my heart — Worcester is home to the first Armenian-American community in the United States. We also have the oldest Armenian Church in America. When I was first sworn in, I attended a memorial service commemorating the 82nd Anniversary of the Armenian genocide. At that service, at the front of the church, there were pews filled with survivors of the genocide, sixty in total. We lost our last remaining survivor in July of 2015. But I am proud that I was able to honor their memory by bringing to the floor last month a bill to formally recognize the Armenian genocide in the House of Representatives.

We cannot say “never again” without justice — and we cannot have justice without truth!" View the Facebook post here.

10/29/19 - Rep. McGovern posted the following to Facebook: "Worcester is home to the oldest Armenian community in America. The first Armenian Orthodox church in America was built in Worcester. People still worship there today.

When I was first elected, we had rows and rows of pews filled with survivors of the Armenian Genocide sitting at the front of the church during our annual April remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. Sadly, almost two years ago, the last of our survivors, Rose, passed away.

I have learned so much from this community. And to those who insist that now is not the time for us to recognize the Armenian Genocide, I have to ask in return - when will it be the right time? When the very last survivor of the genocide has passed away?

Standing up for human rights is not a Democratic or Republican issue. It’s an American issue. And even in this age of heightened partisanship, I’m proud that this Congress voted to speak with one voice against genocide by passing this resolution with overwhelming bipartisan support."
