ANCA LAUNCHES 2004 VOTER EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

Nation-wide Distribution of Questionnaires to Presidential and Congressional Candidates

December 9, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC – The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) launched its 2004 Voter Education Campaign this week with the nation-wide distribution of its Presidential and Congressional candidate questionnaires, marking the beginning of a year-long effort to help Armenian American voters make informed choices at the ballot box next November 2nd.

The four-page Presidential questionnaire and the two-page Congressional questionnaire invite candidates to outline their views on issues of special concern to Armenian Americans. The questionnaires are being circulated to the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign and all the candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination, as well as to all incumbents and challengers seeking to win a seat in the upcoming 109th Congress. Responses to the questionnaires will be widely distributed to Armenian Americans prior to election day. The ANCA will weigh these responses as well as the past track records of individual candidates in making its endorsement decisions toward the end of the 2004 election cycle.

“The ANCA is pleased, once again, to circulate Presidential and Congressional questionnaires as a public service to help empower Armenian Americans as active and informed participants in the coming election campaigns,” said Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA. “We encourage everyone to download the questionnaires from our website, and invite all Armenian Americans who are interested in getting politically involved this election season to contact us at anca@anca.org to find out how to get in touch with their local ANCA chapter and other area activists.”

Among the policy areas covered by the questionnaires are the following:

* U.S. commemoration of the Armenian Genocide
* U.S. support for Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh
* Conditions on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan
* The Turkish blockade of Armenia
* Self-Determination for Nagorno Karabagh
* Presidential visitations
* Armenian American participation in government

Copies of both the Presidential and Congressional questionnaires can be downloaded or printed on the ANCA website at the following URL:
