NORTH HILLS — The ARS Javakhk Fund Committee’s ongoing efforts to offer assistance to Armenians in Javakhk benefited from the recent winter clothing drive organized by the Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool administration in December of 2015. As a result of the initiative, which was a collaborative effort between the administration, teachers, parents, and students, six boxes of winter jackets and boots were shipped by the ARS to Javakhk on January 20, 2016 to help Armenians in Javakhk brave the region’s harsh winter weather conditions.

Through various educational activities, Pilavjian Preschool teachers taught students about the importance of giving back to their brothers and sisters in Javakhk. The young preschoolers were eager to help and, with the support of their parents, were able to successfully collect numerous winter clothing essentials.

Javakhk is historically one of nine provinces in the Koukark region of the Medz Hayk kingdom. Today, an overwhelming majority of the population in Javakhk remain Armenian. The region is rich with many historic and cultural Armenian monuments, churches, and cross stones.

Committee Chairperson Lena Bozoyan expressed, “The ARS Javakhk Fund Committee extends its sincere thanks to the A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool administration and all those who contributed to this effort. We encourage similar undertakings to be held throughout our communities, since Armenians in Javakhk remain in need of financial and humanitarian assistance, including medicine, medical supplies, clothing, as well as supplies for schools and youth centers.”
