YEREVAN(Mediamax) — Founders of the International Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity hope that the award will make Armenia known as a well known humanitarian center. 100LIVES and Aurora Prize project CEO Arman Jilavyan stated this today in Yerevan.
The finalists of the prize were just announced on March 15.
“The philosophy of this award is based on the belief that we are a winning nation, and one of the main qualities of a winning nation is the ability to be grateful. To be grateful to those who extended a helping hand to Armenian people one hundred years ago, and to thank those who display the same acts of heroism today,” said Jilavyan.
Director of Communications at 100 LIVES and The Aurora Prize Armine Afeyan added that “The award will be granted on behalf of Genocide survivors as a symbol of gratitude for saving them.”
She said that the Aurora Prize will be awarded annually to those who selflessly help people. The Laureates will become known for exceptional influence and significance of their actions. The Ultimate Laureate will receive a grant of $100,000 and the chance to continue the cycle of giving by nominating organizations that inspired his or her work for $1 million award.
Selection Committee Co-Chair George Clooney will present Aurora Prize on April 24 in Yerevan, Armenia.
