10/01/20 - Rep. Bilirakis tweeted "Proud to hear @SecPompeo say what I've known for a long time: that Greece is a pillar for stability & prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Secretary's deep concern over Turkey's intransigence, & U.S. actions to bolster Greece, are reshaping the region in a meaningful way."

Bilirakis posted the following to Facebook: "I am proud that the United States set the historic record straight by officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide this week. Turkey has for too long denied the historic fact that 1.5 million Armenians and other ethnic and religious minorities were killed by the Ottoman Empire, and the United States will no longer let this historic inaccuracy stand."

Bilirakis posted the following to Facebook: "Yesterday, the House took bold action in defense of our nation by passing measures regarding Turkeys nefarious role in destabilizing the Middle East. The Protect Against Conflict by Turkey (PACT) Act, which I co-sponsored, enacts sanctions against Turkey for its egregious conduct. Turkeys actions in Syria have cause numerous civilian deaths, worsened the existing humanitarian crisis, and has caused even greater instability in the region. This is not the behavior that we expect from a so-called American ally. In fact, the only entities which stand to benefit from Turkeys actions are known bad actors on the international stage who do not have Americas best interests at heart, such as Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad, Iran and Islamic extremists. We must hold Turkey accountable for its flagrant disregard for U.S. interests, and send a strong message to the international community that we are serious when it comes to defending our national security."

Bilirakis posted the following to Facebook: "It is still impossible to fathom that 45 years later a NATO ally, Turkey, can brutally invade and STILL occupy an EU member, Cyprus. Nicosia is the world's only divided capital. Turkish intransigence must no longer be ignored. Turkey must withdraw its nearly 40,000 troops from Cyprus, stop desecrating religious heritage sites such as churches and cemeteries, account for the thousands of missing Cypriots, and negotiate in good faith for a just settlement of the division. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus, I will continue to be a voice for justice for Cyprus."

Turkey has failed in its basic NATO responsibility to safeguard the freedom and security of NATO allies, both politically and militarily. Turkey has bullied, and continues to bully, US and NATO allies around the world - in particular Greece and Cyprus. The clock has nearly struck midnight on the US-Turkey relationship, and the time has come for Turkey to choose whether it will stand with the US and NATO or fall with revisionist powers like Russia and China. I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to support this historic and courageous resolution."

Bilirakis posted the following to Facebook: "President Erdogan continues to test the resolve of the United States and the rest of the international community to hold his regime accountable for sowing chaos and discord that undermines regional security and stifles prosperity. Erdogans lack of respect for international sovereignty is cause for serious concern and does nothing to advance regional interests. I commend the Trump Administration and the European Union for swiftly condemning Turkeys actions and calling it what it is illegal. The United States must remain steadfast in our support for Cyprus, continue to condemn flagrant acts in violation of international law, and be prepared to work with our partners to respond quickly and forcefully to transgression of international law through targeted sanctions and foreign aid restrictions."

That is why I have fought for F35 transfers to be blocked so long as Turkey continues to pursue Russian S400 missile systems. I applaud the Administrations move here."
