Nune Yeghiazaryan
The Armenian EyeCare Project (AECP) has a special treat this year for those who will be attending its 13th Annual Gala at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, California on November 21.
Attendees will not only enjoy an exquisite six-course Mediterranean meal, unique roving entertainers and excellent artists like Tom Bozigian and his band and Arthur’s Armenian Dance Troupe at the “Armenian Festival”-themed event — but it is also proud to be hosting its very own Armenia Director, Nune Yeghiazaryan, who will be traveling all the way from Yerevan to attend the Gala for the first time!
Nune Yeghiazaryan has been working for the Armenian EyeCare Project since the organization established its offices in Armenia in 2003. For over a decade, Yeghiazaryan has been responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of all AECP activities in Armenia — an often-challenging feat but one Yeghiazaryan accomplishes with relative ease through her hard work and determination.
Through the years, Yeghiazaryan has successfully led multiple AECP eye care programs, including the Mobile Eye Hospital, which travels throughout Armenia and offers eye care to those in remote regions of the country, and the Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Blindness, an initiative that aims to eliminate preventable blindness in children, starting at infancy.
At the Gala, Yeghiazaryan will be sharing how effective these programs have been in Armenia in preventing blindness and making eye care accessible to everyone in the country.
Yeghiazaryan will also talk of the EyeCare Project’s current Five-for-Five campaign — producing five Regional Eye Clinics throughout Armenia in five years for $5 million — and how it will benefit the people of Armenia, particularly those in remote regions of the country.
Despite this long list of programs Nune consistently leads, she remains humble about her personal accomplishments and gives credit to the team effort at AECP.
“My own role has been modest,” Nune insists. “Our accomplishments are thanks to our true visionary, Dr. Roger Ohanesian, who founded the Armenian EyeCare Project in the U.S. in 1992.”
She also adds: “AECP is one of the best [organizations] because we are a team. The work of every player is important and appreciated — be that in the U.S. or in Armenia.”
Nune holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University as well as a Ph. D. in Economics and Management from the Economic Research Institute in Armenia.
Prior to the EyeCare Project, she has worked as a Consultant at the World Bank and Program Officer of Socio-Economic Governance at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
