LOS ANGELES – This week, Los Agneles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian led the city’s centennial commemoration of the Armenian people’s heroic resistance at Musa Dagh.

As the Ottoman government carried out the expulsion, massacre and deportation of the region’s Armenian population from their homes and land, and perpetrated genocide against the Armenian people, Musa Dagh was one of four sites where Armenians organized a strong defense of their community against Ottoman forces. From July 21 to September 12, 1915, the Armenians of Musa Dagh heroically endured 53 days of siege and battle. In the years since, Musa Dagh has become a symbol of Armenian survival. It was popularly memorialized in Franz Werfel’s 1933 novel “The Forty Days of Musa Daghâ€
