8-Year-Old Leanna Yeressian Wins Gold in Calif. Beam Championship

ONTARIO, Calif.—Eight-year-old Leanna Yeressian on November 19 won gold in her age group in the United States of America Gymnastics (USAG) California State Gymnastics Championships, competing on the beam.

Yeressian won gold in the beam competition with a score of 9.700, and won medals in the bars and vault as well. She won 5th in the All-Around USAG competition, which is the governing body of the United States Olympic Team.

Yeressian has been a gymnast since she was three years old. She attends Hovsepian Armenian School in Pasadena, California. Her role model is Armenian-American gymnast Houry Gebeshian, she says.
