YEREVAN (ARKA)—Armenia’s defense minister Seyran Ohanyan met with U.S. ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills on Wednesday, the press service of the Armenian defense ministry reports.

It said Ohanyan and Mills discussed the latest large-scale offensive unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and the current situation on the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani troops.

Ohanyan is said to have detailed the ambassador on the main features of Azerbaijan’s blatant aggression, including the war crimes committed by Azerbaijani troops against Armenian soldiers and civilians, as well as gross violations of other legal provisions related to the armed confrontation. The minister said he will initiate an international assessment of these crimes.

Alik Avetisyan, Senior Assistant to the Minister of Defense of Armenia, stated at a press conference that “the bodies of 18 Armenian soldiers, which Azerbaijan transferred to Nagorno-Karabakh on April 10, are undergoing an examination. He informed that the Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting this examination” (News.am).

The parties once again stressed the importance of active mediation efforts and the strengthening of the written agreement on the ceasefire as well as the establishment of confidence-building mechanisms as a precondition for easing the confrontation in the conflict zone

The Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on April 13 met the Ambassadors of the OSCE member states accredited in Armenia. Minister Nalbandian talked about the results of Baku’s military operations committed throughout the length of Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact. “Armenpress” was informed about this by the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

“Azerbaijan with his aggressive actions, in fact, tried to refuse from its international duties to solve the issue with peaceful means, grossly violated the fundamental principle of international law, the decisions and declarations of the OSCE numerous summits and ministerial councils, openly despised the statements by the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries on the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”, said the Armenian Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia stressed the active role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries and highlighted the necessity to support their efforts.
