Shantal, who is an American Armenian, with parents from Uruguay, provided students with an inspirational speech as she shared her experience on Cake Wars, discussed how her Uruguayan Armenian identity influenced her experience on the show and in her business, and spoke to the group regarding how her engineering background serves as an advantage when it comes to constructing cakes.
The students were excited and had prepared many questions for her ranging from what she will be doing with the money she won, how she felt after she won, when she began baking, who influenced her, and many other great detailed questions about her experience on the show.
“I wanted to find a name that would be easy to pronounce for Americans, and a name Armenians can remember”, mentioned Shantal when a student asked where she came up with the name for her bakery. “I like tying in my culture everywhere possible!”
Shantal left the students with an important note to remember; “Anytime a door opens, any opportunity that comes your way, take it, even if you don’t know if it’s going to help you or not. Just do it!”
