AHC XIX 2016 Welcomes Knights and Daughters of Vartan

The 2016 Armenian Heritage Cruise will feature a presentation by the Knights and Daughters of Vartan on the impact the organization is having in the homeland and the diaspora—and how others can get involved.

The presenters will include Robert Barsam, past grand commander of the Knights of Vartan, and Sona Manuelian, current grand matron of the Daughters of Vartan. They will give presentations on the brother and sister organizations and the work they do to preserve Armenian heritage, build Armenian leaders, and sustain Armenian youth and families around the world. They will also answer questions on how to become a member of this leadership organization. Several members at large will be attending the cruise, as they have for many years.

The Knights of Vartan, which was established in response to the Armenian Genocide and has several chapters nationwide, is observing its 100th anniversary in 2016. As the current grand commander of the Knights of Vartan, Steven Kradjian, recently said at the organization’s annual national convocation in July in Washington, D.C., “Vartanantz is a modern spirit, not just a part of our history. Given the persecution that Armenian Christians still face around the world, the need to serve and sustain our people is more urgent than ever before.”

The Daughters of Vartan was established in 1933 in partnership with the Knights of Vartan and has multiple chapters across the United States. It supports Armenian women and families around the world with education and leadership development opportunities.

In addition to their national convocation in Washington, the Knights and Daughters of Vartan played key roles in the various Armenian Genocide commemorations around the world in the past year, including the Times Square commemoration they sponsor annually in New York City. More than 15,000 attended on April 26, 2015.

The Knights and Daughters of Vartan eagerly await AHC XIX 2016. For more information about the Knights and Daughters of Vartan, visit www.kofv.org or www.facebook.com/TheKnightsAndDaughtersOfVartan.
