ANCA Rapid Responder Letter: Expand U.S. Aid for Artsakh Refugees - Urge U.S. Senators to Cosign the Whitehouse-Reed Letter

Letter to your legislator

———————————————————————————–

Dear Senator:

I am writing to urge you to cosign a congressional letter, spearheaded by Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), urging President Biden to allocate additional humanitarian assistance to Armenia to support refugees forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) by Azerbaijan last year following its genocidal ethnic cleansing of the region. To co-sign, contact Ethan Rosenkranz (Ethan_Rosenkranz@budget.senate.gov) in Senator Whitehouse’s office. The deadline to sign on is Tuesday, June 18th.

Armenia is currently housing more than 115,000 refugees from Artsakh – including 36,000 children – who face dire challenges in access to housing, food, basic staples, mental health and social services, and employment. It is estimated that Armenia will require up to $2 billion in assistance to ensure the basic needs of the refugee population are met – yet to date, the U.S. has only provided $15 million in humanitarian assistance to Armenia in fiscal years 2023 and 2024. The letter calls for the U.S. to significantly increase its humanitarian assistance to Armenia – and work to encourage other international donors and organizations to respond in kind.

My family and I are following this issue closely and look forward to seeing your signature on the Reed-Whitehouse letter to President Biden.

Sincerely,

Your generosity empowers our advocacy, inspires our work, and sustains our momentum.
