ANCA Rapid Responder Letters: Urge the U.S. House to Recognize Artsakh; the Senate to Ban Arms Sales to Turkey and Azerbaijan

Letter to Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

Dear Representative:

I am writing to ask you to co-sponsor and work for the immediate passage of a bipartisan resolution introduced by Rep. Frank Pallone calling for U.S. recognition of the Artsakh Republic.

Artsakh – an ancient Armenian land, cradle of Christianity, and modern democratic republic – has strong historical and legal claims to independence. But, today – during the relentless bombardment of Artsakh by Azerbaijan and its Turkish/ISIS allies – the most urgent reason for immediate global recognition of Artsakh’s independence is the very survival of its citizens upon their Biblical-era homeland.

As you may know, fifty of your U.S. House colleagues recently co-signed a Congressional letter to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo calling for Global Magnitsky sanctions against senior Azerbaijani officials. They are, among other atrocities, guilty of launching cluster bombs against Armenian civilians, a war crime documented by Amnesty International.

I also ask that you call Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, R. Clark Cooper, at (202)647-9022 to encourage him to reject any and all military or dual-use sales or transfers to Turkey or Azerbaijan.

Both Aliyev and Erdogan are war criminals and should be treated as such by the U.S. Government.

Left unchecked, Turkey and Azerbaijan (with a combined population of 100 million) will complete the work of the Armenian Genocide, the systematic destruction of the world’s first Christian nation, a proud modern democracy of just three million people struggling to survive on the frontier of world freedom.

I look forward to seeing your name on the Pallone Resolution and hearing of the specific results of your communication with Assistant Secretary Cooper.

Letter to U.S. Senators

Dear Senator:

I am writing to ask you to immediately co-sponsor two resolutions introduced by Sen. Robert Menendez on Turkish and Azerbaijani aggression and human rights abuses, including their joint campaign against Armenian civilians in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh). These measures pave the way toward a total ban on U.S. arm sales and transfers to Ankara and Baku.

Artsakh – an ancient Armenian land, cradle of Christianity, and modern democratic republic – has strong historical and legal claims to independence. But, today – during the relentless bombardment of Artsakh by Azerbaijan and its Turkish/ISIS allies – the most urgent reason for immediate global recognition of Artskah’s independence is the very survival of its citizens upon their Biblical-era homeland.

As you may know, fifty of your Congressional colleagues, in the U.S. House, recently co-signed a letter calling on Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to enforce Global Magnitsky sanctions against senior Azerbaijani officials.

I look forward to seeing your name on the Menendez resolutions and hearing of the specific results of your communication with Assistant Secretary Cooper.
