Artsakh Prime Minister Visits Las Vegas Armenian Community

LAS VEGAS—On Saturday, November 21, Ara Harutyunyan, Prime Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), visited Las Vegas as part of a U.S. tour. Upon his arrival at McCarran International Airport, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Honorary Consul of Armenia in Las Vegas Adroushan Andy Armenian, NKR Permanent Representative in Washington DC, Robert Avetisyan, and Consul Levon Minasyan from the Consulate General of Armenia in Los Angeles.

The first stop for the Prime Minister was the newly dedicated Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument at Sunset Park, where he was greeted by various community organization representatives including St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church, Armenian Apostolic church of Las Vegas, ARS Shoushi Chapter, Homenetmen Artsakh Chapter, ARF Ishkhan Gomideh and representatives of SDHP and several community activists. Homenetmen Artsakh chapter scouts accompanied the Prime Minister in placing a wreath at the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

During a discussion with community representatives, Prime Minister Harutyunyan encouraged Las Vegans to visit NKR and invited Homenetmen scouts to come and enjoy summer camps in Karabakh.

The Prime Minister also visited the office of the Honorary Consulate of Armenia in Las Vegas, where he meet Nevada Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman and Assemblyman Stephen Silberkraus and discussed issues of common interest. On behalf of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Gayle Anderson presented the Prime Minister with a book dedicated to Nevada’s history.

The Prime Minster then visited St. Garabed Church where he was greeted by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Arsen Kassabian, Parish Council Chairman Garabed Bedirian, and Parish Council members. Afterward, the Prime Minister visited the Armenian Apostolic Church of Las Vegas where Parish Council Chairman Karen Setanyan provided him with an update on the church construction project.

Later that evening, the Prime Minister attended the Armenian Apostolic Church of Las Vegas annual banquet. In his address to the 250 guests, Harutyunyan stated that the objective of his visit is related to the Armenia Fund Telethon scheduled for Thanksgiving Day on November 26, and encouraged community members to lend their valuable support.
