YEREVAN (Arka)—The Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) with the support of Ucom telecom provider on Thursday opened July 7 the first Armath engineering lab in the Artsakh IT Center, raising their total number across Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh to 131.

The opening ceremony was attended by UITE vice-chairman Hayk Chobanyan, Ucom CEO Hayk Yesayan, Instigate company CEO Vahan Poghosyan, head of Artsakh IT center Narine Hambardzumyan and others.

“Thanks to this initiative, schoolchildren as young as 10 will be able to start learning engineering skills, which will make them more competitive,’ Chobanyan said.

Yesayan said that Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh need not only economists and doctors, but also engineers, who “will breathe life into the Armenian military-industrial complex.” He added that Ucom will assist UITE to open two more engineering labs in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The goal of this major program is to promote technical education in all the schools of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, encourage school students’ interest in high technology and enhance engineering thinking.
