LAS VEGAS, Nevada—On Sunday, November 6, 2016, Las Vegas St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church Parish Council & Ladies Auxiliary hosted its Fourth Annual Dolma Festival (wrapped grape leaves).

Following Sunday Church Service, the program began with welcoming remarks by Hagop Havanjian who served as Master of Ceremonies. He welcomed two special guests; Sarkis Kotanjian, Executive Director of Armenia Fund and Danny Tarkanian, candidate of Nevada 3rd Congressional District.

Over 200 parishioners and guests were gathered at the church courtyard to enjoy Armenian national dances performed by the Armenian Dance Academy of Las Vegas, choreographed by Gohar Markarian. Following the dance performance, parishioners gathered at “Koujakian” hall to enjoy the wrapped grape leaves which were prepared by three teams of ladies. This year, the three judges were Meline Terzian, Isgouhie Nishanian and Hermine Yeghiayan.

During lunch, Kotanjian, Executive Director of Armenia Fund, gave a short presentation regarding the Thanksgiving Day Festival/Telethon that will be held at St. Geragos Armenian Apostolic Church (6820 Ponderosa Way, Las Vegas, NV 89118) on Thursday, November 24, 2016, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm with the participation of internationally famed singer Tigran Asatryan.

Parish Council presented Gohar Markarian with flowers and thanked her for a fabulous performance from her students of Armenian Dance Academy of Las Vegas. Parish then commended Raffi Demirjian and Hrant Hevoyan with meaningful gifts presented by Arpi Hicks, St. Garabed Church Parish Secretary.

At the conclusion of the Dolma Festival, Silva Assadourian’s team was awarded the “Best Tasting Doma.” Silva Vartanessian’s team was awarded the “Best Wrapped Dolma and finally, Shoghig Dokouzian’s team was awarded the “Most Traditional Dolma.”
