PASADENA—Pasadena Conservatory of Music continues its presentation of A Century of Piano Music by Armenian Composers: 1890s—1980s from Folk Origins to Virtuosity, four concert-lectures performed by Vatche Mankerian. The proceeds will benefit the Verjine and Nazareth Mankerian Scholarship at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM).

Mankerian will perform Program III, titled The Second Generation Composers, which will include significant works by Edward Baghdassarian, Gayaneh Tchepodarian, Ghazaros Sarian (son of artist Martiros Sarian), and Alexander Harutiunian. The program will also include a special performance with guest pianist Asuka Fu of Armenian Rhapsody for Two Pianos composed collaboratively by Alexander Harutiunian and Arno Babajanian.

The concert will be presented on October 2, 2016, at 4pm in Barrett Recital Hall of Pasadena Conservatory of Music, 100 North Hill Avenue, Pasadena, California.

Tickets are $35 for the general public and $25 for PCM students and families. Tickets may be purchased at 2nd-generation-composers.bpt.me or by calling the PCM office at 626-683-3355.

Mankerian spent two weeks of July 2016 in Tokyo, Japan, where he was invited by the Piano Teachers’ Music Guild to present master-classes and adjudicate the annual student evaluation of the PTMG. In Tokyo, Mankerian also presented a concert in which he performed works by Khatchaturian and Komitas, as well as Harutiunian-Babajanian’s Armenian Rhapsody for Two Pianos and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, both with pianist Asuka Fu.

Mankerian holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from USC’s Thornton School of Music. A member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, he is on the faculty at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.
