When Turkey tried to purchase both Russian and US military equipment, we pushed to stop the transfer of the US F-35 technology to Turkey. Now, as Turkey continues to turn their back on the region it is right that the US should respond with the appropriate consequences when foreign allies make ill-advised military advances instead of promoting peace in the region.

Turkey has aggressively moved into Syria causing civilian casualties, additional refugees, and has caused the release of multiple ISIS prisoners. The damage to the Turkish economy from the US sanctions is clearly the responsibility of the Turkish leadership, which has attacked the Kurds and made a bad situation in Syria even worse." 08/14/19 - Sen. Lankford posted the following to Facebook: "Parts of the F-35 are manufactured by Orizon right here in Grove. As Turkey’s role in the F-35 program winds down after they purchased Russian military equipment, US & Oklahoma companies are ready & capable to step up & supply our warfighters w/ made-in-the-USA parts." 07/17/19 - Sen. Lankford tweeted "When I first intro’d a bill in April 2018 to stop the transfer of the F-35 to Turkey, it was with hope that they would work to improve US-Turkey relationships. Unfortunately, they have moved in the opposite direction by accepting the Russian S-400." View the tweet here.

04/09/19 - Sen. Lankford posted the following to Facebook: "Turkey will not have both a US-led F-35 aircraft & a Russian S-400 missile defense system. It is concerning that Turkey, a NATO ally, would seek close defense cooperation with Russia, whose authoritarian ruler seeks to undermine NATO & US. Strong op-ed.
