Text of letter to be sent to President Trump, Secretary of State Pompeo, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, Senators and Representatives
Dear ______________:
Why has the United States yet to impose sanctions on Turkey and Azerbaijan for committing war crimes – documented by Amnesty International – against Armenian civilians in Artsakh and Armenia by indiscriminately firing cluster-bombs and other prohibited munitions into residential areas?
The White House – via the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) –must immediately enforce crippling sanctions against Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and their senior military leaders for each of the wars crimes they have committed since they launched their September 27th attacks.
Both Aliyev and Erdogan are demonstrably guilty of directing a premeditated surprise attack and sustained assault on civilians in Armenia and Artsakh. Clear video evidence from Artsakh and parts of Armenia document their deliberate and extensive targeting of civilians. They are both war criminals – who have recruited thousands of foreign jihadist terrorists to their anti-Armenian campaign – and should be treated as such by the U.S. Government.
Left unchecked, Turkey and Azerbaijan (with a combined population of 100 million) will complete the work of the Armenian Genocide, the heartless destruction of the world’s first Christian nation, a proud modern democracy of just 3 million people struggling to survive on the frontier of world freedom.
I look forward to hearing of your explanation for this failure of American leadership.
