ANCA Rapid Responder Letters to NJ Senators for Artsakh Recognition

Sweeney:

As President of the NJ State Senate I am writing to urge you to support the passage of S.R.99, legislation that your colleague State Senator Joseph Lagana introduced on Friday, October 30, that would officially recognize the Republic of Artsakh and condemn Turkey and Azerbaijan for their aggression. The resolution also calls for the support of US Senate resolution that would lead to sanctions against Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey, is waging an all out war against the civilian Armenian population of the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia while declaring that their goal is Artsakh and Armenia without Armenians. This resolution is a necessary step in securing the safety and security of the Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) who are currently facing existential threats to their safety and security. On September 27, Azerbaijan began a series of coordinated aerial and missile attacks on Artsakh. Azerbaijan is using drones to attack the civilian populations of Artsakh and Armenia as well as civilian infrastructure including hospitals, schools, and churches. The indiscriminate bombing of civilians and civilian infrastructure has gone on now for over 35 days and has caused the death of civilians and large scale damage to civilian infrastructure.Turkey and Azerbaijan continue to violate US and International laws by using banned munitions such as cluster bombs targeting civilians, and white phosphorus chemical weapons. Turkey has also recruited and transferred jihadist mercenaries from northern Syria and Libya to the front lines creating more chaos and destruction in Artsakh. Turkey has also violated US laws dealing with the transfer of US made weapons and parts to Azerbaijan to use in this war in addition to their direct involvement in using US made F-16 bombers in the war against Armenia. Left unchecked, Turkey and Azerbaijan (with a combined population of 100 million) will complete the work of the Armenian Genocide, the systematic destruction of the world’s first Christian nation, a proud modern democracy of just three million people struggling to survive on the frontier of world freedom.I look forward to hearing of your actions on this urgent matter.

LAGANA
Thank you for standing alongside the Armenian American community of New Jersey and sponsoring legislation that would officially recognize the Republic of Artsakh, condemn Turkey and Azerbaijan for their aggression and call for support of U.S. Senate resolutions S.Res.754 and S.Res.755 that would lead to sanctions against Azerbaijan and Turkey.

As you know, Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey, is waging an all-out war against the civilian Armenian population of the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia while declaring that their goal is Artsakh and Armenia without Armenians. This resolution is a necessary step in securing the safety and security of the Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) who are currently facing existential threats.

This series of coordinated aerial and missile attacks on Artsakh, which began on September 27, and indiscriminate bombing has resulted in attacks on the civilian populations and on infrastructure including churches, hospitals and schools in Artsakh and Armenia. Left unchecked, Turkey and Azerbaijan (with a combined population of 100 million) will complete the work of the Armenian Genocide, the systematic destruction of the world’s first Christian nation, a proud modern democracy of just three million people struggling to survive on the frontier of world freedom.

As Turkey and Azerbaijan continue violating U.S. and international laws by using banned munitions such as cluster bombs targeting civilians, white phosphorus chemical weapons, recruiting and transferring jihadist mercenaries from northern Syria and Libya to the front lines, transferring U.S. made weapons and parts to Azerbaijan to use in this war and using U.S. made F-16 bombers in the war against Armenia, the world is standing on the sidelines.

I applaud you, Senator Lagana, for not only taking a stand, but also for taking swift action in bringing this to the attention not only of our fellow New Jersey residents, but the nation.
