TAVUSH, Armenia (ICRC)— In border villages of Armenia’s Tavush Region, situated near the international border with Azerbaijan, people underestimated the threats posed by mines and unexploded devices.
Last year, in partnership with the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organized 27 information sessions for residents of 16 villages, most of them teachers and schoolchildren. ICRC informed them about the dangers of mine-related incidents as well as how to remain safe in case of shelling. They also distributed leaflets to some 6,500 people, and put up posters in their villages.
In 2016, the ICRC has worked with the ARCS to run a total of 32 such sessions in the 17 villages of Tavush.
In the video above, the ICRC touches upon the educational sessions on unexploded mines organized for the people of Tavush, as well as personal stories of affected families.
