Eva Mooradian receives award for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section’s “Champion for Character”

MONTEBELLO, California—The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section has named Mesrobian High School Junior Eva Mooradian a “Champion for Character,” for “exemplifying the very finest in sportsmanship, character, integrity and athletics,” according to a letter from Rob Wigod, CIF Commissioner of Athletics. She was honored in an award ceremony on Monday, September 28.

“Your selection was made from thousands of possible recipients in the CIF Southern Section, so this is truly an honor,” the letter went on to say.

Mooradian plays for the school’s varsity volleyball and basketball teams. Like other students involved in Mesrobian High School Athletics, Eva is actively involved in other extracurricular activities and excels in her academic studies. She is a Liaison Officer of the Associated Student Body Council, is involved in the school’s Mock Trial and Teen Court programs, and is actively involved in the local Armenian Youth Federation Montebello Juniors chapter and Holy Cross Armenian Cathedral Youth Group.

Garo Balikian, Mesrobian Athletics Director stated that, “Armenian Mesrobian School and the Athletic Department are very proud that Eva has been chosen to receive the “CIF Champions For Character Award.” The award is given to student athletes who exemplify excellence in athletics, academics and community service.  Over the years, a number of Mesrobian High School Varsity team athletes have been recognized for academics and sportsmanship. Mesrobian School looks forward to continued success from our student athletes, both on and off the field. Congratulations Eva!”

Armenian Mesrobian School, established in 1965, is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has Ron and Goharik Gabriel Preschool (which serves students 2-5 years old), Elementary, Middle School and a college preparatory High School on the same campus.
