10/17/19 - Sen. Kaine posted the following to Facebook: "President Trump’s decision to help Turkey push the Kurds out of their home in northern Syria after all they have done to help the U.S. defeat ISIS is outrageous. His explanation that “they had to have it cleaned out” is chilling. I’ll have numerous questions for the Administration about how they will protect against ethnic cleansing in the region. A ceasefire is a positive development, but unfortunately this agreement is a capitulation to Turkey. Trump is once again giving Erdogan exactly what he wants at the expense of American security interests." View the Facebook post here.

10/07/19 - Sen. Kaine posted the following to Facebook: "President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from Syria’s border with Turkey and abandon the Kurds is a betrayal of a key partner in our fight against ISIS. Now they are on their own — facing threats from the Syrian government, Turkey, Russia, and ISIS remnants. And Trump took this step against the advice of our diplomats and military leaders. He didn’t even notify the Kurds, our allies, or Congress. The Trump Doctrine continues—abandon allies and embolden adversaries. The Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees need to call DOD and State Department witnesses to come before Congress and explain this immediately." View the Facebook post here.
