Roseville, MI — The Armenian National Committee of Michigan brought the values and concerns of Armenian Americans in Michigan’s 9th Congressional district to the office of Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI-9) on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
The activists – Hovig Kouyoumdjian, Lara Nercessian and Dzovinar Hamakorzian – met with Rep. Levin Tuesday afternoon to thank him for his cosponsorship of House Resolution 227, the Armenian Genocide Truth and Justice Resolution.
Rep. Levin also recently signed the Dear Colleague letter by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA-28) and Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-21) regarding the Armenian Orphan Rug that was addressed to President Barack Obama.
The letter received bipartisan support and called on the President to release the rug, which was handmade by orphans of the Armenian Genocide, to the American public for exhibition.
“We thank Rep. Sander Levin for his unwavering support of the Armenian community both in Michigan and in the United States. He has been a friend of ours for many years and has shown what a strong advocate he is to the Armenian people,” said Kouyoumdjian, ANC of Michigan chairman.
ANC-MI discussed other issues with the Congressman, including the self-determination and independence of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, foreign aid to Armenia, Azeri aggression in the Caucasus and the Armenian community in Michigan’s Congressional 9th district.
The ANC of Michigan is planning a robust series of meetings with lawmakers from Michigan’s federal and state delegations in the coming months.
