Washington, DC – Acclaimed author Samantha Power discussed her latest book, “A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide,” on the C-Span television “Booknotes” program on June 16th, covering the Armenian Genocide extensively as part of an in-depth interview on U.S. response to genocide in the 20th century.

Power’s book provides a masterful overview of the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, the Cambodian Genocide, Iraqi attacks on Kurdish populations, Rwanda and Bosnian ethnic cleansing. The author highlights the inadequate U.S. response to each of these tragedies, beginning with the Armenian Genocide.

Armenian Americans have been following Ms. Power’s efforts closely since her speech at an ANC sponsored conference on Genocide denial, held on the campus of Georgetown University in December of last year. Following publication of her latest book, the ANCA Western Region hosted a successful book signing at Borders Boks in late April. The author was also a featured speaker at the Armenian Genocide commemorative program San Francisco, CA. Over the past month, the ANCA has distributed over 500 copies of “A Problem from Hell,” to key Congressional legislators as well as genocide and holocaust historians.

Samantha Power is the executive director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. From 1993 to 1996 she covered the wars in the former Yugoslavia as a reporter for U.S. News and World Report and The Economist. In 1996 she worked for the International Crisis Group (ICG) as a political analyst, helping launch the organization in Bosnia. She is a frequent contributor to The New Republic and is the editor, with Graham Allison, of Realizing Human Rights: Moving from Inspiration to Impact. A native of Ireland, she moved to the United States in 1979 at the age of nine, and graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School. She lives in Winthrop, Massachusetts.
