AYF LAUNCHES ‘YES, IT’S GENOCIDE’ VIDEO CONTEST

Calls on Activists to Tell Obama to Honor His Pledge on the Armenian and Darfur Genocides

September 14, 2010

LOS ANGELES, CA –NEW YORK, NY –WASHINGTON DC — In conjunction with Serj’s powerful new song, “Yes, It’s Genocide,” the Armenian Youth Federation has launched a special contest calling on all concerned citizens to stand up and demand the truth from Obama.

Anti-genocide activists are being asked to submit a 30-second-to-1-minute video clip on the AYF Website explaining why it is vital for the President to speak honestly about the Armenian Genocide and take action to end the cycle of genocide.

Clips can be submitted on the AYF’s Website at: ayfwest.org/yesitsgenocide

Use the term “Yes, It’s Genocide” in your message to the President and you could be one of two winners to receive tickets to Serj Tankian’s concert at the Greek Theatre and the opportunity to meet Serj backstage.

Other prizes for the most unique and powerful clips include a copy of Serj’s upcoming “Imperfect Harmonies” album, a lithograph of the “Yes, It’s Genocide” music sheet personalized by Serj, and special acknowledgment on www.SerjTankian.com.

All submitted clips will be sent directly to President Obama as part of the ANCA and AYF’s “Yes, It’s Genocide” Action Alert Campaign.

“Yes, It’s Genocide,” is the eighth track of Serj’s new “Imperfect Harmonies” album. It’s is a moving tribute to the victims of genocide, with its haunting music and Armenian lyrics inspired by the fear, terror, life and the ultimate death of 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide and a century of genocides to follow.

Portions of the melody were first featured in Tankian’s 2009 video entreaty to President Obama titled “As President I will Recognize the Armenian Genocide,” which included remarks by fellow artists and anti-genocide activists Tom Morello, Boots Riley and Congressional Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA). The video (shown below) has over 237,000 views and was launched during the ANCA’s “Fierce Urgency of Now” campaign in the weeks leading up to April 24th, the international day of recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
