WASHINGTON, DC — Members of Congress will join Armenian American community representatives from across the country in honoring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the 9th Annual ANCA Capitol Hill Observance of this crime against humanity, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). The commemorative program will take place on Wednesday, April 9th, at 6:00 p.m., in the historic Cannon Caucus Room.
Members of Congress joining the ANCA as key hosts this year include Senators George Allen (R-VA) and Jack Reed (D-RI) as well as Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA), George Radanovich (R-CA), Jim McGovern (D-MA), Mark Kirk (R-IL), and Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ). Each of these Senators and Representatives has been a consistent supporter of issues of special concern to Armenian Americans, particularly initiatives to recognize and commemorate the Armenian Genocide.
The ANCA’s Annual Capitol Hill Observance provides Members of Congress the opportunity to commemorate the Armenian Genocide with members of the Armenian American community. Over 35 Members of Congress attended last year’s commemorative program including Senators Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) and Jack Reed (D-RI) as well as Representatives Robert Andrews (D-NJ), Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Eric Cantor (R-VA), John Conyers (D-MI), Joe Crowley (D-NY), Susan Davis (D-CA), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Rush Holt (D-NJ), Mike Honda (D-CA), Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Joe Knollenberg (R-MI), Jim Langevin (D-RI), Jim McGovern (D-MA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Donald Payne (D-NJ), Steve Rothman (D-NJ), Ed Royce (R-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Brad Sherman (D-CA), John Sweeney (R-NY), and John Tierney (D-MA). The event had the support of over 100 Senate and House Members.
Joining Armenian Americans and elected officials this year will be survivors of the Armenian Genocide, members of the diplomatic community, and leaders of civil and human rights organizations.
