GOVERNOR DAVIS APPOINTS ANC ACTIVIST TO MAJOR CALIFORNIA AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION

February 28, 2002

LOS ANGELES, CA— Governor Gray Davis this month appointed longtime Central California Armenian National Committee (ANC) activist Arthur Hampar to serve on the Board of Directors of the 24th District Agriculture Association, known as the Tulare County Fair Board. Tulare County is one of the leading agricultural regions in California.

“We are pleased that Arthur’s dedication to public service, both in Tulare County and in the Armenian-American community in the San Joaquin Valley, has been recognized by the Governor, commented ANCA-Western Region Chairman Steve J. Dadaian after Hampar’s appointment was made public. “The ANC has long attracted people who are dedicated to making a difference in their respective communities – Arthur is such a person. His dedication to the Armenian Cause and the work of the ANC is a model for others in our community to follow,” added the Chairman.

Arthur Hampar was born in San Francisco and later returned to California’s Central Valley and grew up there. His grandparents came to California in the early part of the 20th century as a result of the Armenian Genocide. He has been an attorney for the Tulare County Public Defender’s Office since 1987. He has been a longtime supporter and activist with the Fresno chapter of the Armenian National Committee. In that capacity, he has worked to help advance the Armenian Cause by supporting the ANC’s many local and statewide grassroots initiatives.

Hampar is a proud member of the Tulare Kings Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Tulare County Hispanic Roundtable and Fair Housing Council of Central California. Presently he serves on the Board of Directors of the Tulare County Bar Association and is a member of the Sequoias Kiwanis Club of Visalia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a law degree from the University of Santa Clara Law School.

The Armenian National Committee of America is the largest and most influential Armenian-American grassroots political organization. The ANCA actively advances a broad range of issues of concern to the Armenian-American community.
