New York – The Armenian National Committee of New York today welcomed the newest member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Representative Steve Israel (D-NY-2). Representative Israel’s entrance into the Caucus brings its membership to 102.
“We congratulate Representative Israel on his joining the Armenian Issues Caucus and look forward to a close working relationship with the Congressman on a number of issues of special concern to his Armenian-American constituents,” stated Alex Sarafian, chairman of the Armenian National Committee of New York (ANC NY).
The first-term Congressman was elected to the House of Representatives in the November 2000 general election. He represents New York’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Islip, Babylon, Huntington, and Smithtown in Western Suffolk County of Long Island.
Israel serves on various House Committees, including the Steering and Policy Committee, the Financial Service Committee, and the Science Committee.
With over 45 chapters across the country, the Armenian National Committee of American is the largest Armenian-American grassroots political organization. The ANCA actively advances a broad range of issues of concern to the Armenian-American community.
