WASHINGTON, DC – ANCA 2005 Leo Sarkisian Summer interns cheered on pro-Armenia Senate and House members at the 44th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball game held on June 23rd. Both House and Senate representatives played seven innings of baseball “Hill” style – Democrats vs. Republicans at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, finishing with a GOP victory of 19-11.
Waving red, blue and orange signs, the interns rooted for last year’s Armenian Genocide resolution lead sponsor, Senator John Ensign (R-NV), who pitched a masterful game for the Republicans. The ANCA delegation also applauded the athletic prowess of Reps. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) and Anthony Weiner (D-NY), both of who have received “A” ratings from the ANCA.
“Call it what you want – the Reds vs. the Blues, Democrats vs. Republicans, the donkeys vs. the elephants, but for the 5,632 staffers and interns in attendance it was a bi-partisan effort that raised $110,000 for some great causes – the Washington Literacy Council and the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs,” said ANCA Leo Sarkisian Summer Intern Coordinator Megan Young. “It was a fun opportunity to cheer on our Congressional supporters.”
